One of our EMF testing devices – the Trifield 100XE EMF meter

Trifield 100XE EMF Meter

One of the meters we use in our EMF home and office inspections is the exceptional Trifield meter. It measures the three main types of electromagnetic pollution: AC magnetic fields, AC electric fields, and radio/microwaves.514OHKWTWaL.01_SL500_

  • AC magnetic and electric fields are 3-axis, allowing quick accurate readings regardless of meter orientation.
  • Two magnetic ranges detect 0.2-100 milligauss. This meter is calibrated for 60Hz
  • The Trifield is sensitive enough to detect background fields in most situations and can measure up to very strong AC fields
  • The Radio/microwave spectrum covers 10 to 1000 microwatts/square cm

However, the Trifield meter is best suited for magnetic measurements, not for electric and radio frequencies, because its range is limited for those fields. We use two or three other meters to assist us in determining an accurate map of electromagnetic issues in a home or office we’ve been invited to inspect.

You can buy the Trifield meter at Amazon (landed cost in Canada is about $200 to $225) if you’d like your own unit, or you can ask us to bring our complete inventory of testing equipment to do a professional job and to give you the full benefit of our thousands of hours of testing and mitigation experience plus our comprehensive 8 page report. The complete package ranges from $200 to $350.

We use a full range of EMF meters to track EMFs to their source. We will give you a verbal summary of our findings on the spot. Then we’ll provide the results of the inspection in a written report. It will show the location and intensity of EMFs within the property and give practical steps on how they can be eliminated or avoided at minimal cost. One of the solutions we might recommend is the installation of Graham-Stetzer filters in your space. They filter out much of the dangerous high frequency energy. We’re getting reports of health changing results from our clients.

Measuring EMF and what levels are considered harmful?

Updated 12.23.2014

We’re EMF home inspectors. We practice in Toronto and Southwestern Ontario. People ask us what EMF levels are considered harmful.  Here we answer these questions. We use the Building Biology Precautionary Guidelines (SBM-2008) For Sleeping Areas showing Magnetic and Electric from Germany. Basically, readings of 2 Milligaus and greater begin to give us concern. This is in the “Severe Concern” column below.

Note: The majority of homes we test give readings in the Severe Concern column of the Table. This is why you should consider a home inspection by our team.

We will be happy to measure AC Magnetic, AC Electric, and Radio Frequency (RF) field
strengths in your home or office and assist in the process of remediation.  Full report, & recommendations are provided.

The EMF meters we use in our home inspections … TriField, ESI 24, Stetzer Microsurge meter

Updated 12.23.2014

We created 3 videos for you to see our EMF meters in action.

Video 1 (TriField Meter)

Video 2 (ESI 24 Meter)

Video 3 (STETZERiZER® Microsurge Meter by Graham-Stetzer)

The videos convey a visual sense of how the meters are used. The following section outlines specific details on these meters…

Details on each of the Meters:

1. The Trifield ® Meter gaussmeter is our main device to measure magnetic fields, which can be tricky to measure. If a less sophisticated 1-axis gaussmeter is used, a reading of zero could result even where the field is strong. A 1-axis meter must be oriented correctly to measure the field (which is a vector). The 3-axis Trifield Meter solves that problem by measuring the true strength of the field regardless of which way it is oriented. Therefore, the Trifield Meter can be scanned rapidly across an area without having to stop at each point to search for the orientation that gives a maximum reading. Another section of the meter detects AC electric fields, which can exist independently of AC magnetic field. The third section detects radio/microwave, such as from a leaky microwave oven.

2. The unique ESI 24 meter checks for all 3 types of EMF: magnetic fields, electric fields, and radiowaves/microwaves simultaneously. RED / YELLOW / GREEN LED lights indicate EMF level. The meter has a loudspeaker that gives an audible indication of field strengths. Sound frequency/intensity changes with increasing field strengths. This unit does quick and easy localization of the sources of different types of EMF. The display shows 5 different levels, ranging from extremely low to too strong for prolonged exposure.

3. The STETZERiZER® Microsurge Meter detects and responds to low level high frequency voltages caused by transients and harmonics on power lines. The level of these voltages is measured in GS (Graham-Stetzer) units and varies with electrical equipment and loads. We use this device in conjunction with STETZERiZER® filters. Wherever the measurements are too high in the home, we plug in a filter. The average home needs 15 to 20 filters before its environment is effectively “cleaned up”.

We do EMF home and office inspections in Ontario Canada. We inspect houses, apartments, townhouses, and condominiums. We also do other types of inspections as requested.

We sell and install Stetzer filters and do EMF home inspections in Toronto Ontario and surrounding area.

Are you getting abnormally high electricity bills? Maybe your smart meter is to blame.

Updated 12.23.2014

Some residential customers have been complaining that their electricity bills are higher after smart meters were installed in their homes. This could mean that the new wireless meters are not reading accurately.

Smart meters have been controversial for a number of reasons, especially amid concerns that they emit harmful EMF radiation that could affect the health of the people living in the home.

What We Do: EMF, inspections, surveys, detection

Updated March 19, 2016

We do EMF home inspections in the greater Toronto area & all over Ontario. This includes existing or pre-purchase houses.

For an appointment, call
  905-719-7030 or  EMAIL.

We inspect houses, apartments, townhouses, and condominiums. We also do other types of inspections; see below.

A typical inspection includes testing of the entire dwelling from an electromagnetic standpoint. We use professional meters and measuring devices to find out where the “hot spots” are.

Our team has a wealth of research, and is constantly taking courses and training to keep up on the latest in EMF information. We are closely associated with the EMF filter manufacturer and with a prominent University professor who is at the forefront of EMF research.

If you have health concerns about overhead power lines, mobile phone masts or about the invisible EMFs of your electrical appliances, then this may be for you. Employers may wish to evaluate employee workspaces for Health and Safety purposes. We will identify electromagnetic fields, radio frequencies, and dirty electricity.

We use professional EMF meters to track EMFs to their source. First we will give you a verbal summary of our findings. Then we’ll provide the results of the survey in a written report. It will show the location and intensity of EMFs within the property and give practical steps on how they can be eliminated or avoided at minimal cost. One of the solutions we will recommend is the installation of Graham-Stetzer filters in your place. They filter out much of the dangerous high frequency energy. We’re getting reports of health changing results from our clients.

We measure for:

  1. Harmful magnetic frequencies (aiming for below 1 milligaus and ideally below 0.2 mG)
  2. Harmful electrical frequencies (aiming for less than about 20 volts per meter and ideally below 6 V/m)
  3. Harmful radio frequencies (aiming for low row readings where safe varies by frequency)

The cost of a survey depends on the complexity of the situation, size of property and distance from our office in the GTA. Note, we view the GTA (Greater Toronto area) as “local.”

EMF inspections start from as little as $200 for pre-purchase and $300 for full surveys, and neighbouring properties may be able to share the cost of a survey. Please get in touch for details and a competitive estimate.
